You've inspired me to try a butt

Well, it must have been good....13 hours cooking it and 13 min to disappear....:)

I told the neighbors to come over and try it, then my wife's uncle and two cousins stopped by and my MIL, that doesn't like "stuff like that" proceeded to devour it. It was supposed to be lunch tomorrow...

My verdict, I really liked it. Peopke were right,I've just never had good pulled pork. Everyone that tried it went on and on about it. I've learned one thing over the last several years, after cooking over wood flame/smoke it's hard to taste.

Looks real good! How'd you like the snake method?

I just saw your question...

This was my first time and I'll have to say, there was very little tending to it. I left the house twice for pretty long times. I could never have done that on my wood fired/fuel oil tank. This was a great technique and very easy.

I'm assuming in frigid weather I could just use a 2x2 snake to raise the heat up but still get about 8 hours out of it before extending the snake?

This is why I like the snake. I don't know about frigid weather, I'm a warmer area of Cali, but you could probably did a 2x2x1 to compensate for the cold temp.

Just read this thread. Sounds like you did great for your first time. When I have done butts, I have used the juices in the pan to mix back into the pork after it has been pulled. It absorbs it right up and tastes great...
