I had bought a butt to smoke for the missus and some of her coworkers. The weather did not cooperate,so I stuck it in the freezer. She told me the other day that she wants PP for halloween. Yes! So I yank it out of the freezer and put it in the fridge to thaw. While poking it this morning to see if it's thawed.I noticed that it was enhanced. @%$#&* ! Is there anything I can do short of buying another butt? Can it be soaked to try and draw the enhancment out? As always, thanks in advance for all the advice.

Just buy another butt and cook them both. When they're done, taste both, if you like the enhanced one, mix them both together. If not you have the fresh one as back up! Avoid using any salt on the enhanced butt, but it still will be a bit salty compared to the fresh one.

Soaking is not going to make a big difference.

Bought my first BB from Sam' Club, and altho I looked I didn't really, and missed that it was an enhanced piece of meat. It looked beautiful when I finished it on the grill, but even for me, was much too salty. I'll reiterate what everyone has said on this board since I joined six months ago: DON'T buy 'enhanced' meat.

Ok,it's quarter to 6 AM. WSM is getting ready. Bit the bullet,so to speak, and told the missus about the meat. She feels the same way about "juiced" meat. She said to go ahead and cook it,and take my lumps if it sucks. So I took half of Larry's advice and made a simple rub with no salt. I'm going to put it on in just a few. I'll let you know how bad it is.

Well, I think you and the Mrs. will definitely be able to tell the difference. If it comes out salty, sauce it with a sweet sauce and your company will still enjoy it. HECK, enhanced meat made for the General Public........they eat it all the time!
