WSM Out of round

I just picked up a 2006 WSM, almost new. It was not fully seasoned. Anyway the owner said she could not control it. It was like new. She tried it twice and put it away never to use again. I brought it home and was setting it up when I noticed a huge wobble in the middle section. The charcoal bowl was 1/2 inch out of round. Pipe clamps and some gentle pressure solved the problem. There were also two minor creases along the access opening. I think it was damaged in shipping. Is this common?

yes. it is common.

It was not fully seasoned

i did not think these things needed seasoning...

... the inside surfaces were still so new and shiny they tend to running hotter until they get "seasoned" or gunked up whatever term you choose.

My brand new one was out of round on both the top and center piece. Called Webber and they fedex me both pieces and told me to just keep the two I have. A new bottom and I can make a new grill, if I wanted. Maybe just spare parts. Webber is great customer service.

I was a bit leery about getting one just because of some of the problems I have read about. But, knowing cust. service, I went ahead and did get a 2012.
I don't even use my bandit any more. Maybe I will for a camping smoker.
LOVE the WSM !!!!!!!
