WSM handle rusting

I think they all do that, I wouldn't worry about it. You could oil it after each use. I would just keep on smokin'!

Dear all,

my few years old WSM is starting to rust from the handle. Is this normal or shoud/could I contact Weber customer care about this?

Rusty handle </div></BLOCKQUOTE>All of my charcoal Webers rust like that. I wire brushed the 15 year old one and painted with high temp paint, but It's probably best just to leave them alone.

Well if its starts to rust like that after say 3-5 years? or whats a few?

I would still call weber and se what there 10 years warranty says against rust.

Maby im picky but it wont get better with time.

Ciao,

mine is 2 years old, so I think it should not rust yet.

I left message to Weber from weber.fi and told that I have a pic if they are interested and got reply to my gmail within 5min asking for the pic - after that silence. I guess they sent it to the U.S HQ

. My Q300 and OTG MT had their lid's replaced as well. The Q300 had paint chipping and OTG MT had porcelain chipped from the lid straight from the package.

Antti,

Mine looks just like that too. Got it in June of 2008. It has always been covered. I wouldn't expect it to rust that early. And like Wolgast said, it's not going to get better with time.

Ok,

it seems that I'm not alone with this... Still no reply from Weber.. I'm not supriced that this happened, as the handle area is most difficult to reach with porcelain coating.. I'm affaraid that the handle will come loose eventtually.. Also, Weber CC might be frustrated to me as they have changed lid's to my Q300(paint chipping after 1 month of use) and OTG MT (missed spot of porcelain, out of the box).

Hello,

Weber CC said that no problem here as the lid has been coated before the handle is attached. It is only surface rust that can be tackled with WD-40 and this is because the screws are not made from rust proof material.

OK, but the handle is not screwed, but spot welded. How can you spot weld if the lid is already coated with enamel?

Oh well, what do i know - I'll just spray the WD-40...

Thx for sharing this,i cant se any rust on my 3 year old yet but i now know that its gonna happend.

And yea i just took for granted that the handle had the same coating becouse ot the weld.
