Wind chimes

Want to buy some. Know nothing about them. Anything in particular i should look for? Thanks

Looks & sound!

I have a few in the back yard, my cousin commented on them a couple days ago.

They will sun rot - the strings will last for a few years but then the grocery store cheapies will start leaving pieces.

I know if you go too big they'll sound like gongs, so you'll put them farther away from your house.

I got these ones from Corinthian Bells 2 years ago - I saw them in a honey shop but bought them at amazon (shop was far away & I thought they were overpriced) https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003DRR3MU/tvwb-20 ***only buy the smallest if you get this brand***

My other favorite I got from Ace Hardware - they're made from bamboo, they're about the same size but the weight at the bottom fell off (friend was holding her kid who grabbed & split a piece <it was old, I glued it & it lasted a couple more years before falling off again....I have the pieces ready to go back>) so they don't make as much noise.

Any that I've bought I've just seen on a display & started seeing what they sounded like.

If you get the ones I linked above, they might be louder than you think - I have mine sheltered from most of the wind. The neighbors had a really big set like those - I liked them but they only had 'em up for a year or so.....might've been too noisy for them.

A couple suggestions :)

Bamboo Tiki Mask: https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B07NCPBS28/tvwb-20

smaller or more intricate ones will tangle so don't put them too high - they're not hard to straighten out but if they're in full wind, they'll twist together over time.

I kind of like this one: https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B07DWPXQ2T/tvwb-20

I was looking at these (brass or copper) a couple years ago: https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00NFKUE26/tvwb-20

We hung one indoors from a high ceiling beam to use as an "Earthquake" detector. it will sway and sometimes chime with the smaller ones we don't feel.

Hanging too many outdoor chimes in a breezy location can annoy the neighbors endlessly.

They're not as bad as barking dogs! My neighbor's gong chimes bothered me at first but I missed them after they took them down.

I asked my neighbor who's closest if my chimes bothered her, not sure if she brought them up but she said "no, I like it."
