I don’t have to ask Jon. Had my daughter and her boyfriend pick up a Silver C for me and told them to take the hood off first. Since it would fit in the SUV without, they didn’t. One side the hood broke, the other side the firebox. Even sadder, I was going to refurbish it and give it to her boyfriend as his old grill was throwing flames out everywhere and he didn’t have money for a new one as he is still in college.Removing the lid also reduces the chance of breaking a hinge while loading and unloading. Ask me how I know.
