Wild Cherry - Good for cooking?

Hey guys,

I've recently come across a source of FREE wild cherry and was just wondering if it was good for smoking. I've heard a lot of "regular" cherry but not wild. Is this a good score?

Thanks!

Can't say for sure concerning smoking. But as I've posted elsewhere, a decoction of wild cherry bark makes an outrageous expectorant: it's a good herbal remedy for productive (mucusy) coughs.

No it's not, where abouts did you come across the cherry?

A neighbor's yard.

I think it's a good score. I have some I cut down in my back yard. I mix it 2 parts hickory to one part cherry for pork. I use it strait for chicken. (nice color). I used it for salmon once but found it a little overpowering. IMO

I have been using wild cherry for years. There is a lot of wild cherry in this part of the state. Cherry is one wood I have never had a problem getting my hands on. I have been told the the wild cherry is milder than domestic cherry. I can't say though, never got my hands on domestic cherry.
