I found a place in CT that sells WGC. I've been using Royal Oak lump lately and have not been thrilled with it on longer cooks. 5 hours or less it's fine, but I had to add fuel twice on a 10 hour cook recently. I will be picking some up soon too. Let us know what you think once you use it.

well here is how it went, got the wicked and got rolling about 8am on 2 butts weighing about 15lbs.. the wicked is really nice but it did have some large chunks which i cut down some.. filled the charcoal ring bout half way added some oak a little more lump and then a full chimney starter lit on top.. let it roll for bout 15 minutes and assembled the smoker. temp got up quick and settled around 250. at about 3pm my temp began too dip a little.. i think it could have gone longer if u wanted too smoke at a lower temp, but i added a lit chimney starter too get back too speed. i cooked till 6pm that is ten hours and it was around 230 when i took off the butts.. awesome stuff.. i really like both this and royal oak, and the burn time is not as big a difference as i thought it would b, so for me it will depend on my funds situation.. oh well hope this helps and happy smoking!!!

That wicked good is not that bad. Though I noticed that some of those big chunks actually made it harder to work with. Some of those large chunks were actually not completely carbonized. That said, my very first cook with the stuff I got 15 hrs with a full very well packed ring, and I found a bit leftover the next day after the shutdown. I have yet to replicate that burn time.

Where is CT did you find? I've been using cowboy charcoal.

I would also like to know where you can get it.

Go to your local ACE Hardware and see if they carry it or if they will order a pallet or two...

While you're in there, see what else they have and try them next time instead of the big box...

I use both the WG lump (mail order) and RO lump (USA) from Restaurant Depot. The WG bag is 22# and just a tad smaller than the RO 17# bag. Seems that the WG is a bit denser without any scrap lumber. But the price on the RO I can buy locally is hard to beat.

Deeps Hardware

It's not any cheaper than just ordering it online direct from Wicked Good. He quoted me $10.99 for a 10 or 12 lb bag (can't remember). I haven't been able to get over there yet.

I'd like to get at least 8 hours of burn so I can do an overnight cook without fretting too much. Never would have made that with the Royal Oak. I'm surprised you didn't get a little longer burn with the WGC briquettes.

Overall, did it still have a pleasant smell? Did you find it burned more consistently than regular lump?

i liked the stuff. if u got 15 hours using the lump that is awesome. how much total lump did u use? what was your starting procedure? when i got done i had a lotta lump left, maybe my fire got choked off a bit, but i used an 11lb bag and then a little more. i cooked mostly around the 250 mark and my water pan was kept full the whole time.. thanx again
