Whiskey barrel chunks?

I have used Jack Daniel's chips for grilling on numerous occasions. Does anybody know a source for whiskey barrel chunks or planks? I know some folks use wine barrel wood also. How does that rate for smoke wood and anybody know any sources for it also?

Where are you from, here in the Pacific NW we Have Apple Creek Timber Co, they can supply you with wood and or chips. Right now he has chips from very large wine casts form Russia, nice stuff.

Thanks for the tip, Jim. I'm just down the road in Eugene. Do you have any contact info for Apple Creek. I did a search but did not turn up any.

I've never tried whiskey barrel or wine barrel chunks. Does anybody know if soaking oak chunks in wine or whatever for a few days would give the same effect?
 
The wine cast had wine in them for over 100 years,
that would be hard to do without a lot of time.
you maybe better off adding the wine to a marinade or mop.
