I went about 6 hours with the tuna can mod on a silver. I prefer the silver because when it comes to being an actual grill it has better airflow than the gold.
 
I found that a sliced pineapple can works the best in the SJS it's taller and a little wider then a tuna can and comes right to the bottom of the lowest grate that the water pan / foiled saucer sits on. It allows me to completely fill the charcoal bowel and like I said before I've gone 9 hours without a problem with ash and I had enough leftover coals to cook a chicken dinner on the performer. My guess would be about 11- 12 hours before it needed a refuel.
If you go with an SJS just find a can at least as wide as the vent and as tall as the bottom of your grate that holds the water pan / saucer and you won't have any issues.
