Over the top. 15 Kingsford in summer, 18-20 in colder weather. I tried the coffee can in the middle trick once, a couple of years ago, and it worked great, but the standard MM also works great. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Here's the "Official, approximate" results:

6 dumpers (29%)
1 coffee can (5%)
1 other (5%)

There were a few comments about getting temps up and keeping temps down. Nothing conclusive in my mind though. I guess like all things "Q" you just have to try different things and see what works for you.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could just keep that fire burning 24/7???

I dump them in the center, about 20-25 coals usually.

Im a 3/4 full chimney spreader with a heaping mountain of unlit Kingsford below it. Last me 18- 20 hours most of the time. I call it the MMM Method aka the Massive Minion Method.

I put my wood chunks on the unlit coals and pour the lit coals all around the top. This makes sure my wood burns.

Since you asked, I use a weed burner and light off enough coals to do the job and move on.
