when to put butt on help !!!

This my be a silly question but i'm doing my first smoke tomarrow morning and i was readng thru this for some extra advice after i dump my coals on top of unlit coals ands place my wood in do i havve to wait for temp to get up or can i add my butt right away thanks again for the help

Good question. The answer is Yes!

I've done it both ways with Boston Butt and the end product was good both ways. I pour my 10 - 15 lit coals on the unlit, which already has the smoke wood embedded in it, then go grab the meat, add a little extra rub and put it on. Butts are very forgiving of my quirks.
