If you want to smoke it I like shank in ham (ready to cook) smoke it to 160? internal.
Hickory or fruitwoods for smoke. I would stay away from spiral cut hams, they dry out during the cook.

As far as brands go, I absolutely love Hamilton and Smithfield hams. I believe Smithfield is a subsidiary of Hamilton but you cannot go wrong with either.
