What could possibly go wrong?

I hardly ever sell things.
Today I listed a motorcycle on Craig’s list for a lot of money and got few hits right away (maybe it was listed too cheap) and one guy is all over me for it.
He wants me to go to a website I’ve never heard of VehZemAuto.com to give them my vin # so he could see any history it had.
He even spelled the website with the capitol letters placed in there like that.
When I research the site I didn’t get that warm and fuzzy feeling

I got the creeps and told him he could have the vin when I had the money and we should do the deal at the police station in town and basically sorry if he didn’t like it but I was polite.

This is a Ducati racer I used to do track days at Sonoma with and most of these are either wrecked or are tucked away on display.

So question how dumb is it to give up my vin number without cash in hand?
He wants the vin and agrees to the police station deal.

This is a run don’t walk away thing isn’t it?

The website looks legit, and my BitDefender AV didn't throw a warning, but I would go there first and enter the VIN myself and see if there is anything that comes up...then tell the guy it's clean ( assuming it is ) and go from there. I wouldn't give him the VIN or any other private info until I was convinced he was a serious buyer. There are a lot of flippers out there that are looking to buy low and then flip the goods for a quick and easy profit. Heck, there might even be one or two on this board :)

The address in the footer is an image so it isn't being crawled by search engines.

If you google the address

2200 Fletcher Ave, Suite 502 Fort Lee NJ 07024

you find a reference on the fortlee chamber of commerce for Vanda Ondrus a realtor and other realtors for Keller Williams

maybe one of them cobbled the site together as a side gig, or maybe its bogus...

I'm gonna agree with the scammer folks, this just reeks of problems, and I'm not even looking at the site or anything else. Stick with your gut feeling, and do the transfer at a police station.

I'll will complete sale of a car in the lobby of my bank. I contact thee and advise them I'll be depositing cache and they have been very helpful. The bank has lots and lots of cameras and once the cash is deposited I'm good.

Yeah, I'm done. I vote scam site.

If you goggle "VehZemAuto" including the double quotes it will only return results that have that as a match. no reviews, no incoming links.

@AndyK can you post a pic of the bike ?

VINs from cars are plainly visible from the outside. What's the worst that could happen if someone gets your VIN?

Here are a few pics.
Damn nice bike but as the saying goes ,what a drag it is getting old.
This is basically a track bike with a plate.
Too fast and too dangerous to enjoy on the roads.

My neighbor just dug up that site for me for a closer look.
$40 to sign up.
I wonder how many messages he sends out every day.
Yeah no thank you.
I mean why not ask for carfax or something people have heard of?
It might take a week or so to sell to the right guy.
This guy isn’t it.

Beautiful bike, Andy! It looks fast just sitting there. There's a sketchy looking guy standing behind it, though.

Not the first time I've heard of this scam, and it's probably not going to be the last. Obviously, there's money to be made.

Somebody I used to work with also had a race Ducati with a plate. He had somebody try to race him off the line late one night..... he just let the other guy romp on the throttle and his bike just whipped over, to pound him into the ground like a stake. The guy with the Ducati just laughed and rolled off.

That is one seriously nice looking ride, and I have absolutely no desire to hang a leg over it.

One reason sometimes why it's just easier to trade in.
BTW cool bike. Makes my back, neck and arms hurt just looking at it :D

It is a 2012 Darryl.
I like it a lot but I think at my age a Trail 90 is more my speed.

On a side note,
Funny story (kinda) about this bike.
I told my wife I was going to buy a new bike.
She was all good about it.
I told her my plan, I was going to trade in another Ducati I had and get the new Street Glide Harley.
Once again she was totally fine with this.

The plan was going well until the devil on my shoulder said “hey let’s go look at the new Ducati’s”.
That was all it took.
I fell in love with it the second I saw it and bought it.
I have several bikes, even a nice big Harley so I figure I can buy anything I want.
I have her blessing for a new bike.
I mean what could possibly go wrong?

And that’s when the fight began.
Oh she cussed me out like no tomorrow.
She asked “how the eff was she gonna sit on that?
She had this idea that we would be traveling the country on a new touring bike and do our own version of Easy Rider.
This was a big one and I was in the spare room for 2 days before she would speak to me.

Me I know better now.
I’m gonna hand her the cash as soon as I get it and then try to make her think “our” next toy was all her idea.
