What’s the difference?

I picked up a 20 pound bag of B&B that says ‘with OAK premium hardwoods blend’ at the bottom from Academy Sports for $13. It didn’t smoke, smelled fine and cooked great. I’ve seen the other bag type containing 20 pounds at other retailers for about $20 or more. Is there a difference between these two lump charcoals from B&B? I’m trying to understand the price difference.

Dunno.

Picked this up at Ace a few weeks ago. I'll have to look up the price. It was less than Rockwood.

Obviously one is a premium hardwood blend because it has some oak in it and the other is just hardwood scraps without oak.

Lump can be almost anything.. mixture of tree limbs and lumber trimmings, etc. I don't think any of it is what it's marketing would conjure up an image of....pure hardwood limbs..... Purposely produced just to make high quality charcoal for you. All charcoal is basically scraps. Lump or briquette. Heck briquettes got sawdust.
