Weber Summit Platinum D6 NOS

While that might look good on a grill, it clearly won't have very good heat retention which is what makes the 9mm and 3/8" SS solid rod grates so desirable. And I agree with Larry, that stuff looks like it uses compression fittings that would be water tight with some plumbing tape.

Just out of curiosity, what is the price on that stuff?

I'd be curious if anyone has had, used or heard of 316 SS grates?
It definitely has some qualities higher than 304 but I wonder if there are any negatives besides the higher price.

View attachment 105629If it’s like this one and basically brand new I would offer $400 (intentionally low but not too offensive) and see what happens.

If I was selling it new I would list it at $800 and just wait and see how it goes over time occasionally lowering the price.
John-NY,
Yes, that is the grill. After reading about the painful grill cleanup process and its potential for rust in firebox and beyond, I’m not real enthusiastic about the grill. My Weberitis is trying to talk me into it though…. I’ll post pics if I lose the battle.

Marine grade. Very nice. But cannot stay in water for long periods.

A little math here.
1 inch pipe, half inch gap. About 20 pieces. Each two feet long.

26 in the pic.
4 to 6... how much?!

Weber folks,

Weber Summit Platinum D6 (2006 model?). It’s never been used. Still has protective film on it. It’s complete with all bells and whistles.

I’ve read about rust issues, burn through, parts availability, etc.

How long will it last?
What’s a decent price to offer?

I used to have a genesis platinum but sold it years ago (bad move). I am happy with my genesis 3000 but never thought I’d see another platinum like this.

It’s huge, I probably don’t need it but…. I could talk myself into it!

Thanks
Has the cause for the porcelain fire box rusting been determined and is there any way to mitigate or slow it down? I have a gold D 6 which Weber replaced the box under warranty about 5 years ago.

Found a platinum D6 with the firebox rusted for $25 and moved best of both grills to the platinum cart. Got a rotisserie with the purchase and hopefully spare parts for many years.

No signs yet of the replacement box rusting. Would like to make the grill last as long as I can. It’s a great grill.

It happens because the porcelain coated steel is not the most suitable thing for high heat exposure. The heating/cooling cause microscopic fissures/cracks. Moisture, food acids and salts collect, eventually reach the metal and the rest is history. It's more likely around openings. i.e., the openings where burner tubes and the like poke through. So no there is no way to alleviate it
