WEBER SMOKING JACKET

ALL,
Last week I purchased an insulated "jacket" for the bullet...bbqguru.com and it worked WONDERFULLY! Temp last Friday in Chicago was 20 and got colder when the sun when down...the smoker held between 145-155 for 12hrs plus with the jacket. Cooked 2-12lbs boneless shoulders and after 12 hrs internal temp on both reached 200...I recommend if you live NORTH of the equator

Mike, I was just looking at the jacket last night. Thought it was priced a bit on the high end. Glad to hear positive feed back about it, it makes me think twice now.

Rich it looks to be the same material. I would opt to say you'd get the same results. It comes down to how much $$$ you want to drop to keep your baby warm at night.

That depends. If you are hosting a party of Ivy Leaguers, you'll probably make a better impression wearing a smoking jacket as opposed to a water heater blanket.

Not even close to the same material. Ever see those shiny silver fire suits that Airport Firefighters wear? Yeah that's the stuff the Guru jacket is made of. I love my Guru jacket.

I have 2 of them bought about 2 years apart. The last one I bought was in Jan of this year. It is made of a lighter material than the first one and it has a hole in the top (not like the first one.

Both of them work great but I wonder why they put a hole in the top of the new one. Could it be so that it can be used without the Guru?

Steve, I think it's more of a moisture realease point to help alleviate some of the moisture running down the inside of the jacket and the outside of the WSM. The WSM has three 3/4" holes in the lid and will allow much more air flow than a single small hole in the jacket, which I believe, would still snuff the fire out without the use of a Guru.

I must've been mistaken in thought. Reflectix insulation isn't shiny at all.

If you put a shiny penny and a shiny dime side by side, the only thing they have in common is they are shiny. The guru jacket is very heavy duty and is lined inside with fire proof material. It's a far cry from a hot water heater jacket. Just because they both look shiny doesn't mean they are the same thing. "Rich it looks to be the same material" Yes looking at one online verses one in person, you could say, yeah they look the same, but they are apples and oranges, not even close to being the same.

I have a jacket too. And love it. It's either windy in the summer. And cold and windy in the winter. I think, in the winter it saves on charcol. My pitminder worked a little harder the one time I didn't use the jacket.

Bryan I'll have to take your word brother. You know better than me, You have what I'm looking for!! If it weren't for your detailed explanation I may have miss spent my money and bought a shiny apple. What I need is a very heavy duty fire proof shiny orange. I'll save my pennies.
