Thanks for sparking a memory. I recall my parents using that same break apart charcoal or whatever it was back in the mid 70’s if I recall correctly now that you mention it. It probably won’t come as a surprise that it was on a Hibachi as well.Same here. Growing up (early 70’s) it was just my mom and I, she had a single Hibachi. I remember her using some kind of charcoal that looked like it was in a cardboard egg carton. You’d just break off how much you needed. She’d do sirloin steaks, chicken and of course burgers and hotdogs.
