Weber Q1200 regulator delete

Hello, my name is Ronald and I am a Newbie here on this board … Today, I worked on connecting my Q1200 directly to my 200 gallons bulk tank. I removed the regulator from the Weber and made a direct connection to the big tank. This big tank was installed for our firepit and with a view towards connecting the BBQ, eventually. After assembling all the parts and making the required connections, I checked for leaks. All good. No leaks. Then I fired-up the Weber and … hardly any heat at all. It took about 20 minutes to get to 450 degrees. That is very much unlike before, when the Weber was connected to a 5 gallon tank and heated up to 400-500-600 plus degrees in just a couple of minutes. What am I missing here? Any suggestions? Thank you!

There has to be a regulator somewhere in the plumbing. If there wasn't, you've have a real fire issue. Based on your description, I have to wonder if you have a low PSI regulator at the tank. If the grill uses a high PSI regulator, you'll have a far lower BTU output than you expect. Only way to be sure is to look up the data for both the Weber regulator and for the tank regulator.

I wonder if the regulator was actually deleted from the grill or not. With a regulator delete, the hose should connect directly into the valve like this:

If you are running it off the 200 lb bulk LP tank regulator, I am not sure that will work or not as I am not sure what kind of pressure that would put out.

Actually it will run fine through 2 regulators assuming both are set correctly. My buddy does it with his Q all the time. He simply hooks up his regulated gas line from his camper to their Q rather than install a 1lb bottle

I was wondering about that Larry. When I added a line to direct hook a Q to my camper, I deleted the regulator on the grill and it worked great. But I was wondering if you could run it with both. That probably would have made that project a little easier and allowed me to also use the grill with the LP bottles if I didn't have to delete the grill regulator.

Yep. His camper has dual bottles to run the fridge, furnace, water heater and stove. He simply hooked right up to that feeder after the regulator on the tanks

Thanks for all the replies. Here are some photos showing the regulator delete on the Q end and the pipe connections to the bulk tank. I think I have to look at what @LMichaels has stated in regards to the pressure regulator on the bulk tank end.

The regulator delete can bypass it.
Ronald, odds are the regulator you're feeding it with is set to less than 11"WC and the grill needs 11" WC to operate correctly on LP
So I looked at the photo I took of the regulator on my bulk tank and it shows a range of 10.2-13” WC. The question is now, whether that is adjustable and I will have to ask Suburban Propane about that.

Well that simply means it's an 11" WC. It may be malfunctioning, or you may have too long a run with too small a pipe or too many things on the line for the size

One thing to consider is that you could have used too much pipe dope or tape and partially blocked the valve...or another possibility is that might have allowed some debris into the valve (dirt, loose tape or pipe dope) or whatever. When you light the grill, does the flames look normal height when on high or are the lower?
