Weber Grommet from a 14 to a 18

I know the topic of where to put a grommet has been beaten to death, but I'm curious has anyone ordered the official Weber grommet from the 14.5? Based on all the straight vs. bent probe issues around the thicker & metal grommets I'd rather go down the route of silicone. I'd hope the engineers at Weber know more than I do


I called Weber this morning and they are going to send me one of the grommets from the 14.5 to retrofit to my 18.5.

So if I'm the first Pics to follow....

Sounds like you're the first - I hadn't thought of it since I already did the lamp mod.
It looks big, interested to get the ID measurement. I suspect my current hole is too close to the top lip for me to drill it out for the new grommet...

I called Weber this morning and they are going to send me one of the grommets from the 14.5 to retrofit to my 18.5.

So Weber will sell you the grommet knowing full well you have to drill a hole into your 18.5" WSM?!?
But yet, they won't sell an ash ring and pan if you tell them you're 'upgrading' from a Silver to a Gold...
