Weber grill pan/basket question

Is there any way to get these things clean to like-new condition again? I've already tried Bar Keeper's Friend with both a blue Scotch-Brite sponge and a 3M stainless steel scrub pad, but there's still a fair amount of burnt on gunk remaining. I'm only using the pan and basket to cook vegetables on medium-low to medium heat. I know there are harsher chemicals out there but I don't want to damage the pan.

I use these scrubbers to clean the Weber grill basket. I steep the basket in hot soapy water for a half hour and then scrub for a couple of minutes.

I've had the Weber "Style" basket for about 16 years.
It's a pain to clean and I never tried to get it back to new condition, but I have tried.

is it stainless steel? Myabe try oven cleaner.

I put my SS grill basket in the dishwasher when I have space. Sometimes 2 or three times and its cleaner, but still not new and shiny looking.

I agree, it will never look new again. I do like that the basket doesn't have a non-stick coating, so I'll put up with a little more cleaning time. @timothy, do you have a picture of your basket with years of patina? Interested in comparing it to mine as far as condition. Restaurant sheet pans come to mind.

Forgot where I put it

I've tried the dishwasher before and it didn't make any difference.

I've thought about the oven cleaner. It's a harsh chemical but might be the only way unless there's something stronger than dish soap but weaker than oven cleaner.

If sparkling clean is what you want…get another for show and use this one allowing it to develop some scars. I’m leery of kitchens that are always spotless, same of grilling equipment. If it’s not a little scarred, it’s not loved! (Velveteen Rabbit syndrome)

I have the shallow version of that pan & I just use SOS pads & BKF Cleanser, it's not perfectly clean, but pretty darn close.

Just use the Member's Mark grill and oven cleaner. That stuff just literally melts off the "dirt". Frankly I don't call it "dirt". I call it "used" and "worked". It sure ain't gonna cook any better if it always looks brand new, and it's not like it's gonna be more "healthy". I have similar pans I picked up at Costco.
I throw mine in the dishwasher. They're perfectly clean and healthy to use. They're just not "show pieces".

Yeah, those are the exact same ones I use. I've never tried soaking the basket before cleaning it before, so maybe that will make a difference.
@Kevin_K soak the basket in hot water, 1/2 cup baking soda, and 1/2 cup white vinegar for a half an hour. You should get the basket mostly clean with your scrubbies.

I used Scotch Brite on my carbon steel griddle and it got it down to the original finish with just a plastic scrubby.

Soaking in hot, soapy water or a vinegar solution can help loosen grime. A baking soda paste can gently scrub away stubborn residue. Avoid metal utensils to prevent scratches. For tougher stains, consider a stronger cleaner but test it on a small area first.
