Weber Genesis Platinum II grill smoker system?

Can anyone on this forum explain to me how this works or has any experience using this?

I adopted a genesis 2000 that had one.

It sits over the crossover tube.
Replaces one of the eight Flav bars.
Uses a narrower cooking grate.

II put it on my 1000 to see how it works, but have not cooked on it yet.

They really don't work. Had one (actually 2) both my grill and my dad's. We took them out and tossed them. Honestly a simple foil pack of chips on the flavo bars works FAR better and doesn't take up any space

Gotta disagree with you on that one. Mine works great......as do foil packs with chips. Different strokes and all.

Oh they make LOTS of smoke but it doesn't go anywhere near where it needs to be. Which is why ours ended up in the dump. Actually not totally in the dump. I saved the little stainless steel water cup. Fill it with chips and cover with foil. Nestle in the flavo bars and it works perfectly

I don't know, I use mine in my Summit, and the smoke ends up on the food......maybe yours had a leak.

I appreciate the responses. So if I understand correctly, I fill the large canister with wood chips not pellets and small stainless troff with water and shut the lid?

Yes. That is the theory.

What exactly is the water for?

Theory on water is to keep the humidity up in the grill to keep the food from drying out.

I've read that moisture helps the food pickup smoke favor.
