Weber Genesis I-5500 drip trays vs Genesis Silver drip trays

Weber does not list part number 99250 from later models are cross compatible with older grills.
Has anyone tried? The older model drip pan is not discontinued.

Trying to perfect restore this genesis V.

Do you have to have a "NEW" drip pan? I have several used ones.

Also, is that a bullet hole in the middle front of the gray lid, or did someone drill a thermometer hole there?
 
We spoke on Facebook Bruce, I'd like to have a very clean one if not new, this one would be my keeper. It's a dirty enamel chip, I'll try to color match it with some high temp paint.
 
OK, I tend to mix people up all the time. I am bad with names, but if I don't see a face, then forgedaboutit.

But what is with that hole in the middle of the gray lid?
