Waterpan question

I still haven't found a clean and easy way to dispose of my greasy water mess left in the water pan when I'm finished. I smoked a bunch of meat yesterday and a bunch more today. Today I got lazy and left the greasy muck in the bottom of the water pan and just filled it up with water. Is that a bad idea?

Hi Russ!

I think what you did was fine. I know you are having a hard time getting rid of the water, but consider foiling your pan BEFORE putting the water in, then let the water evaporate out and you have a simple clean-up.

I would also suggest you try using sand in the water pan. Place some sand, I use the stuff from the kids sandbox, about 1/2 filled up. Then place foil over the top of that to catch the drippings. Works like a charm!

I just double bag the ashes, and pour the water pan into it. The ashes soak up the liquid pretty well. Never had any leaking problems. Not elegant, but it works for me.
