Water pan

I see quite a bit of talk about replacing the water pan on the 18.5" WSM with a Brinkman part. What is the part # & how much water does it hold? My water pan holds 2.5 gallon, is the Brinkman part larger or just shaped differently to help accommodate putting charcoal in during a cook on the WSM.

My WSM is a 2011 (AA) model according to the chart on here. Is a upgrade worth my time & money or would I be better off just keeping the original water pan?

Thanks for your opinions,
"the newbie still getting a feel for his WSM & modifying it" :D

no idea how much water it holds.
personally , I don't use water much so its of no intrest to me . if you are happy with the way your food is coming out id save my money. :D

I was thinking about going to the ceramic flower pot tray instead of a water pan any thoughts.
the clay saucer makes a good heat sink. As good as water and a lot less messy. I don't use anything anymore. No water , no saucer. I just foil the water pan and control the heat with the vents. Works like a dream.

I think Weber solved the issue with the newer cookers.

In any case: http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/waterpan.html and http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/piedmontpan.html should help.

"The Brinkmann charcoal pans can be ordered from Brinkmann at 800-468-5252 or from the Brinkmann website. The part number is 114-0002-0. The pans are also available at stores and online retailers that sell Brinkmann smoker replacement parts. Retailers sometimes sell the pan as part number 812-0002-0 and UPC code 39953-10191."

Thanks for the links (I had yet to stumble upon them when roaming the site) & info. I will be sticking with the original. The "water pan" link says the Brinkman holds almost 2 gallons of water, my OEM holds 2.5 gallons with some room left at the top, so a little more than that but I don't want to push it.
