Water Pan Question

Hi-

Have two WSMs about 8-9 yrs old. The lower cook grates and the water pans are pretty beat so I just called Weber Customer Service to order new parts. I used the schematic from this very site to give the CSR the part numbers:
http://www.virtualweberbullet....tschematic.html#2000.
I gave her the parts listed for the 2000-2008 model and when she confirmed back to me the part numbers, she read the numbers for the 2009 to present. I said that's not the numbers for my years and she said they are the right ones. OK- not going to argue with the source I guess. Are they the right ones? In the picture, the new water pan look deep- not flat like the one I have now. Is that the case or is it just a odd drawing. And if they are different pans, do they still make the old pan if I want to return the new one for my old one? Sorry- should've settle this with the CSR, but I figured she knew best. Now I'm not so sure looking at the drawings again.... Thanks! -Danny

Well never seen/have the old pan...But i guess the new one is better, holds more water and is not as deep.!? I would go with the new one and enjoy it.

But as i said never seen the old one. Bet you will get more info from a member that know what he is talking about. And Welcome Danny!

Thanks Wolgast! I've been on the site for years and never had occasion to ask a question that wasn't already asked. Until now.

The "new" water pan is definitely deeper then the old style. That's how it can hold more water... diameter is the same.

Danny. The older WSM's water pans used the lids to a SJ. The newer ones use the charcoal bowl from a SJ which is deeper. Call CS back again and you should get someone that can help ya.

Get this: http://www.academy.com/webapp/...Charcoal+Pan&Ntk=All

It's the charcoal pan from a Brinkmann smoker. It holds almost 2 gallons of water, which is more than the pre 2009 Weber water pan. The 2009+ Weber water pan holds almost 3 gallons of water, but is so big it prevents access to the charcoal pit.

I use the Brinkmann pan with a foiled clay flower pot base (no water). It works great.

Good luck.

Thanks all. For the record- called back and got a different CSR and said I just wanted to check the price of an item. Gave the item number for the old water pan and was told it was no longer available and replaced by the new deeper pan. I asked if there was any way at all to get the old pan and she said they do not make it any longer and there are none in stock. I thanked her for her time. So that's the answer.... Thanks all for the assistance! -Danny

Wolgast: "But i guess the new one is better, holds more water and is not as deep.!?" - I know this sounded dumb. But it depends on the design...Not just how deep it is. I thought ppl changed to brinkman with the old ones not the new.

Whats wrong with the clearence with the "new" pan? Sorry i dont get it.

This is my 2010 WSM:

That pic looks like my 08 pan. Shaped like a lid, not a bowl. Wander if Weber used some old stock on some newer models?

That pan is shaped nothing like my '09 Weber water pan, so it must be one of the older pans (SJ lid, not bowl) as the previous poster suggested.

My pan is HUGE and I'd have to be really careful how much charcoal was piled up if I wasn't using the Brinkman charcoal pan for long cooks.

If i have the old pan in my 2010 WSM ignore my first post. Then i just havent seen the "new" one.

No apology needed. Don't have time to look up a pic, but I believe that Weber's website probably has one of a wsm with the newer pans.
