Water Pan Emergency

I went to fill my water pan for my all night smoke and it sprung a leak. I tried tin foil but it still leaked

I took an old large rice pot and stuck it inside the pan and filled the pot with water. The rice pot is 5 to 6 quarts, it fit fine almost as big as the water pan but because of the handles it is about two inches off the bottom of the water pan. Will it be okay?

You should consider using a clay saucer. I did my first clay saucer cook this weekend, and I'll never go back. No refilling, no mess.

I always use a foil lined pan with sand covered with more foil on top .

Or do what I've been doing for 6 years now. Just use an empty foil lined pan. Keep the foil up off the bottom of the pan by an inch or two. Easy peasy.
