Mrs. TVWB and I spent several days visiting friends near Woodland, WA and while there had lunch at Daddy D's. Looks like a small place up front with just a few dining tables, but there's also a larger covered outdoor seating area in the back near the smokers and wood pile.
We had the pleasure of meeting owner Donnie Vercher, he was busy taking orders at the register and working the dining room making sure everyone was happy. Donnie and his crew make some pretty delicious Louisiana-style barbecue in Woodland and at another location in Vancouver, WA. He's also got a line of rubs that he sells at some of the local ACE hardware stores. Finally, he does lots of food-related charitable work in the area, including a huge Thanksgiving feed each year. Really nice guy, we enjoyed having a chance to talk with him.
As for our meal, I had the piled-high chopped brisket sandwich with a side of cornbread and Mrs. TVWB had spareribs with mac & cheese. I really enjoyed the sandwich, and the sparerib I sampled was just-right in terms of tenderness. Would definitely go back for more!
Here are some pics, starting with an attention-grabbing artistic smoker out front. The everyday smokers are in the back.
