Vent openings

I have read fellow WSM owners talk about the airflow openings being 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, etc. open. Is there a way to measure this, or is it an eyeball sort of thingy? I'm not trying to be an obsessive compulsive type (no offense intended to anyone), but I was just curious. Thanks and I love the board!!

Welcome Matt!
What J said: It's just an approximation. As you gain more experience with the WMS you will figure what works for you. Each smoke (as well as each WMS) is unique onto itself.

It's just a guesstamit

I NEVER open any of my vents but the top one. And yes, I "eye-ball" it and I only open it 1/4 to 1/2 and my WMS holds temp right on target using a DigiQ2 Temp Controller. I use the Minion Method putting the charcoal in and I have never put water in my bowl. I put the terra cotta clay plate on top of the water bowl and have them both wrapped in foil for easy clean up..

Just though I'd throw in my 2 cents as this works well for me. Good luck.

Eye ball like the others on my WSM, and on my OTG i've painted on the marks in the pic below - 0%, 50% & 100%.
