i picked up a couple of sample packs of bbq delights wood pellets. they have a lot of different types. jack daniels, hickory, oak, cherry, apple, and a bunch of others.

they cost 5 dollars for a 1 pound bag. the sample bags are 1 1/2 ounces. if you buy 50 dollars of their product you supposedly get free shipping.

they seem easy to use. i was wondering if anybody had tried them and what people thought.

thanks for opinions

Somewhere there's a thread that our own Keri started on this. I think she was even a tester for that fine product. I keep meaning to get some, and was sorry I hadn't gotten the alder by time I smoked my salmon.

I just got some pellets that arrived today from Amazon (finally remembering to order thru this site, phew!)---Charcoal Companion Cabernet Soaked Oak Smoking Pellets, or something like that. ("Add a taste of cabernet to your smoke" or some such thing.) Can't imagine what I'll use it for---well, beef of course. Maybe a chuck roll....!

On edit: search "pellets" and you'll get all kinds of info

i also discovered you can buy 10 pound bags direct from traeger grill for 10 bucks for 10 pounds which includes shipping i think. that sure is a lot cheaper than 1 pound for 5 dollars.

i would think traeger pellets would work as well ab bbq delight. traeger makes very high quality grills

Yep, I am indeed a very happy user of the BBQrs Delight pellets. I love 'em. I've used many of the flavors, and have at least some of each flavor at the house. The winning brisket (cooked on a WSM with a Guru, I might add) at Lebanon was cooked with their Jack Daniels pellets, which are made from the used filtering charcoal at the Jack Daniels distillery. You can usually find the hickory and mesquite at Walmart and at many supermarkets. They are also marketed in the 1-lb bag at Walmart under another name, although I can't remember the name right off hand. I bought some of the apple there a while back.

I could get Miz Candy Sue Weaver of the BBQrs Delight company to come put her two-cents in on this thread, I bet. I'm sold on them - were it not for this product, I would have never discovered the fun of alder and orange for fish and chicken.

Consider this a big 2-butts up rating! Uh... on second thought, let's stick with 2-thumbs up, shall we?

Just as Keri said! And Cherry Pellets for cheese (which is smoking right now.)

hi keri

do you think the traeger pellets would work the same as the bbq delight? 1 dollar per pound versus 5 dollars per pound is quite a savings.

i tried a sample bag of bbq delight jack daniels, but used em wrong. just threw the handful on the coals. smoked greak for about 5 minutes or less and then they were all burnt up. do you ever put another load of them in midlway through cooking or just use the smoke up at the beginning.

thanks for you advice

I've never personally seen the Traeger pellets in small packages, just in big bags. BBQrs Delight also sells in larger bags as well. Traeger pellets are oak, I think - not sure if you'll find other flavors in it or not, as I've never used them. Oak is fine for the smoker, but to me it seems pretty neutral as a smoke flavoring note. I like to combine it with something else, personally.

When you use the pellets, just make a little pouch out of heavy duty foil and pour about 1/3 cup of pellets into the pouch, fold it over a time or two to seal it well, and poke one or two holes in the pouch with a toothpick. I usually use one pouch at the beginning of a cook - I may put a chunk of pecan or something else down in the charcoal, located where it'll catch a little later on in the cook. Usually just the one pouch, although sometimes I'll put another one in later on during the cook if I want a bit more smoke flavor.

keri

traeger has about 10 or more kinds of pellets. i've never used them... just saw that they were 5 times cheaper. do you know of a better way to buy the bbq delight than just ordering them at retail through them. also how big of a bag do they sell. all i saw on the website was a 1 pound bag. never seen them at a walmart or anywhere near me.

i'm kicked on trying to figure out how to use these because of the ease and i haven't ever found anything but oak, hickory, or mesquite near me and i'd like to try some different kinds of smoke

as the frankenstien monster said..." um, smoke... goooooood....
