No not like corn muffin. Just a subtle taste and a bit of texture from the polenta. Not as sweet as a normal upside down cake.
 
had to bump this up after seeing Danhoo's peach upside down cake, This is a really good cake and you can use just about any other fruit.
 
I'm going to try this with frozen blueberries.

It works well with any frozen fruit. When we need a quick easy desert for a gathering this is my go to as we always have the ingredients on hand. Iv'e used frozen blueberries, strawberries, mix berries, peaches. All are good.
