Unidentified factory drill hole

I'm a new owner of a 22.5 wsm and noticed that my center ring was out of round. I messed with it in order to make the lid fit for my first cook. I later decided to call Weber, in which they sent me a replacement center ring. After opening the box that arrived today, I noticed a silver dollar sized hole below the top grate section. Has anyone ever seen an error like this before? I don't know whether to send it back for a third replacement or use this hole for maybe probe wires, however the hole is rather big for that. Any suggestions?

Correct, I just got off the phone with Weber and the rep did not know what it was for either, how ever she did see that the schematics showed a hole in that location. She asked again and found out that it is a grommet for the 2014 models and only showing for the 22.5 size. I feel much better now, and kind of lucky to have that since my new 2013 model did not have it. Awesome!

Weber should send you one for free.

I found it under the cardboard in the box. you must have to have a small probe to fit through the top hole in the grommet. the bottom one is a slit which you can fit two maverick probes through. I can see needing a backup grommet for future use.

All three Smokey Mountain Cookers for model year AO (2014) use the same silicone grommet: 85037. If I remember the parts list correctly, it's under $7.
