Unburned Kingsford.

I started with a full bowl, the Minion Method, and did a 6 hour cook the other night.

Looked last night and noticed I had a significant amount of unburned and partially burned Kingsford still left in the bowl.

I was planning on stirring to knock off the ash, maybe scooling out the spent ash and just throwing some more cola on and using what was already there.

Any down side to burning partialy spent Kingsford?

I am pretty sure they would tell you to pitch it and buy all new, but it's charcoal, so it should burn right? I only need 250* for 2 hours tonight....

Anyone know of a reason I shouldn't do this?

Thank you for the feedback.

I usually have some left over, and I either use it in one of our other grills or save it until I use the WSM again.

The more cooks you do, the better you get at judging how much charcoal to put in. That said, I usually have enough half burnt coals leftover (about 10-20) to light in the chimney for the next MM cook. Be carefull though with the handling of the briqs. They are very soft and fall apart pretty easy.

I use partially cooked K all the time as well. I'll stir it up good the next day to knock off ash, then fill up old coffee cans with it and store it back on my charcoal shelf for use next cook.

Be Carefull!

If they are still warm and get some oxygen they can relight and that can be a bad thing.
Don't ask how I know that.

Just make sure they are out before leaving them uncovered.

I would highly recommend unburned Kingsford over burned Kingsford.
