Turning Pork Butts

I have gotten conflicting advice regarding this, so I'll put the question out there. I have 4 butts (roughly 7-9 lbs each) on the WSM. The two smaller ones are on the bottom grate and the two larger ones are on the top grate. They have been on since last night (about 9 hours now).

Is there any reason for me to rotate/switch levels with these butts or is it just best to leave them where they are. I am not basting or otherwise touching the meat during the process, so that is not a consideration.

Any replies greatly appreciated.

Leave them as they are, there is no benefit in rotating.

I'll second what Mr. Wolfe said. Especially with butts on both grates, the hassle of trying to turn and move them would be significant, and I don't think you would gain anything.

Brian, the only time I may rotate would be if one of the butts finished faster than the other and I wanted to put it closer to the heat to finish it quicker. Other than that I agree with Larry ,just leave 'em be

If I have multiple large butts, I may spin them once if the outside edges are really close to the outside of the grate.

I never flip grates however.

Three "Larry's" can't be wrong. Don't fuss with rotating, I throw them on and don't open her until they're done.

I agree with everyone else as well.
Yep Craig to the 180º spin if the butts are are close to the hot zone. They can get quite cripsy over a long cook. I never flip the meat from the grates either. Small butts on the lower grate and the big ones on the top. All should work out well.

Hey Bryan, I don't use water in the pan so my butt placement is just the opposite. Big on the bottom, where most of the heat is coming from, and small at the top where it's cooler
