Tumeric in Butt Rub?

I have been using the Goya Adobo seasoning with great success on grilled chickens. It has tumeric in it and I am thinking thats what gives it the new flavor I am enjoying.

I am going to cook some butts for tailgating this weekend and need to make some more rub. Would tumeric add anything good or bad to a rub like this? Also for the rubologists on here, any other suggestions?

I am starting with the BRITU base
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup non-iodized table salt
1/8 cup brown sugar, dried
4 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon ancho chili powder
1 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
1 teaspoon granulated garlic
1 teaspoon onion powder

I sub the ancho for the cayenne. Would tumeric work in this? and in what qty? Was thinking of going with some herbs as well (thyme).

Turmeric doesn't have a lot in the way of flavor per se, but it does have pungency and a bitterish quality. You could use it in the rub. With all that sugar some pungency would be welcome.

Consider doubling the amount of chili powder, adding 1 tablespoon turmeric, 1 teaspoon thyme (crush it well with your fingers), 1 teaspoon rubbed sage, 1/4 teaspoon powdered ginger, and either 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon allspice.

Kevin and DL, thanks so much for your help. the butts were a big hit. I loved the bark flavor, not spicy like many of my butts.
