Top Vent turning brown and sticky.

My brother Shawn244 and I are smoking right now. He has had his smoker 4 months longer than I and his vent is clean mine is brown any reason?
 
Maybe your brother is cleaning his smoker/vent. If it's just the top vent you're concerned about, next time you're cooking (or right after, while the wsm is still warm, spray it with vinegar and it will wipe clean. Open and close the vent a few times while spraying and it will loosen right up.

Otherwise, you can just clean it cold with some soap and a brush.
