While I like the Weber Gourmet grates, I had to switch from the searing grate to the skillet in the middle of my cookout. Weber doesn't offer anything to grab the hot grate. Have any of you come across this? I wound up using two sets of tongs, but it wasn't fun with that hot grate dangling around.

If I have to lift a loaded grate I use a pair of channel-lock pliers and grab the support bar in the center of the grate, and transfer it to another grill while I do whatever needs doing. By grabbing it in the center I don't get the lever effect.

Would pliers work on the Gourmet grate?

I use channel locks on regular cooking grates. I also aways where a pair of thick leather fireplace gloves whenever I move or adjust grates. If something starts to slip, you can always just grab it with your hands. You only have to spill an entire grid full of chicken into the grill once to learn your lesson.
