Time for a new Bluetooth meat temp.

My new iPhone doesn’t support my old Bluetooth meat temp probes.
I can still read it at the kettle or smoker but is no longer able to connect to my phone for viewing or adjusting.
I’m looking to upgrade and was wondering what brand /model you all would recommend?
I need at least 4 probes.
I would also like to be able to see the temps and hear the alarms from my bedroom which is 120 feet away up stairs and past 2 doors.
My last one would do that if I raise my phone up while lying in bed.
I’m hoping that they have improved this last 5-6 years.
There are a few on Amazon I’m interested in but after reading some of their negative reviews that sounded logical I’m unsure of what to get.
Which one would you recommend?
Thanks.
Andy.

My suspicion is that you won't have much luck with Bluetooth devices. Every BT device I've looked at (and I'd be happy to be proved wrong,) is labelled as Bluetooth 4 or Bluetooth LE. I tried the Weber iGrill 2,0 device a few years ago, and could barely get it to read on an Android from about 12' away through a single door. Both specs mean a very reduced range. I can't speak to your iPhone issues, I'm also not too surprised given the state of Bluetooth specifications.

At this point, I wouldn't buy one without WiFi connectivity. I've been very happy with the Inkbird 4-probe Wifi/BT (not sure of the model # off the top of my head). It routinely goes on sale between $50-$60 on Amazon.

This is the one I have, on sale for ~$60-$70: IBBQ-4BW or IBBQ-4BW (one has a 50% off coupon and one has $50 off coupon)

There is also a WiFi-only one for around $50 on sale.

Dan I’m using a couple of these.
My brother recommended them to me and they have worked well enough.

BT will be limited in distance. I have the TW BlueDot BT single probe thermometer which works well when I maintain line of sight. If i go inside the kitchen, i'll lose connectivity and it will pick back up the signal when i return outside.

TW Signals broadcasts on WIFI and is incredible. It's rock solid, very reliable and can also broadcast to the internet if you need to leave home for an errand so that you can still see all your temps (probe and grate). The Signals has 4 inputs of which one is grate. The other three are probes for the food temp.

here's a link to my Signals cook from yesterday: https://tvwbb.com/threads/3-babyback-racks.95968/

I had the Meater. Nothing but disappointment
Yeah.

I bought two Meater Plus, so I could have a probe in chicken on the rotisserie and so I could chart temperatures. I thought they would be useful for other cooks too, but I don't use them because they are not accurate, are slow to react to temp changes and seem to drop their connection too frequently.

I have no hands-on experience with the FireBoard 2, however others speak highly of it.

I'm not in love with mine either. They get the job done on the rotisserie and do a decent job on roasts, but I definitely prefer my Inkbird probes.

Yeah bluetooth can be finicky. I see it with my Dexcom G7 glucose monitor. It links to my phone with BT and every once in a while if I step away it loses it then has to wait a few minutes to link back up.

I went with this Inkbird Wi-Fi unit.
I think it will do what I want and I like that it is Wi-Fi for the range.

You'll have to give us a quick review once you get a chance to use it. I don't see too many products like this that are 5GHz Wifi.

I think you will be very happy with it, especially with the less finicky connection and range.

Hi ya Steve,
I will gladly write up a review on this just gimme a week or so.
I am really curious about this unit.
It would really be cool if the Wi-Fi will let me run to town which is 15 minutes away and let me feel safe and comfortable about that.
Just being able to call the wife and say “hey shut the vent a bit” or whatever would really be cool to do.
Part of my property is thick forest so I’m curious how this will work when I’m splitting wood a few hundred yards away.

Yep, I've monitored low and slow cooks from my kids' sporting events before, and it works great. Now that I have a Wi-Fi controller on my pellet grill, I can even bump the temperature up or down if needed. Granted, I'm rarely away for more than an hour or so, but it's good to know that I've got an option.
