OK,

Burning up the board today. Sorry.

My dad has a 22.5 kettle that has been only moderately neglected and I am restoring. Grate is gone. Warped and never cleaned... Corroded with thinning grates.

My good friend, Glenn (in Mississippi), tells me the top grates of the 22.5 WSM (which are heavier duty) fit that kettle. So, about to buy those.

Then hit the link for the cast iron grates. I cook with seasoned iron skillets in the house.

So, now, do I get the iron grates for the kettle? Are they worth it for the WSM? Seems the main advantage is longevity and holding heat energy, which is not so critical in the WSM. Do they even fit the WSM?

I cook on my kettle at home or the WSM about 75% of the time. 3-5 days per week. My gut tells me the investment is worth it for the kettle, but not the WSM, since you do not get the high heat to warp and corrode like you could on the kettles.

Feedback appreciated.

Thanks,

JKC
