Thnksgiving: Who is NOT doing turkey and all the fixings?

For me, I'll be using my 18.5" WSM to smoke a couple 8 lb butts for a big Thanksgiving gathering (20 people). None of us like turkey, so our tradition has been to do something different new each year. I get to choose this year, so it's pulled pork, cole slaw, salads, homemade rustic bread, roasted root veggies and (of course) a big dish of French Fried Onion green beans (some traditions just have to continue, regardless of the menu). Add some cold beers, spiked cider and and bottle of Wild Turkey and it's got the makings of a great holiday.

I'm sure some of you will try your hands at a stuffed, smoked turkey. But what are some of the other Thanksgiving feasts being planned out in Weber-land?

I probably will not be doing a turkey but only because my wife and I are in the middle of moving and packing has made everything a mess. The good news is that our new home has an RV area so I will now have plenty of room to keep my cookers and free up my garage for supplies and prep work. Who knows, maybe I will drag out the WSM anyway and throw a turkey on.

We don't do turkey for Thanksgiving either. Last 5 years I've cooked a standing rib roast on my kettle. Plan is to do it again this year. Hadn't thought of cooking it on my WSM...hum might be worth a shot.

It wouldn't seem like a real Thanksgiving without turkey. And besides, just what do you think the original pilgrims
would think of your audacity to break their tradition? Blasphemy I tell you...........

Thinking about maybe a couple lamb chops or possibly even go all out and do a beef fillet. Couple that with a twice baked potato done on the grill. It's just me so a turkey doesn't make sense.

My go-to is ham. I dislike turkey, but usually cook one in the oven for tradition's sake. I'm going to someone else's home this year, so I'll be bringing ham :D

This year my mom's having Thanksgiving and is roasting a fresh turkey in the oven (first time ever), so no cooking for me unless I take something as an appetizer.

I'm thinking a brown bag special for thanksgiving this year. I have to work all morning/afternoon/evening on thanksgiving.

I am going out with a group to the desert to ride quads and I believe they are planning on deep frying a turkey out there. I am going to do a sausage and cornbread stuffed pork loin with a white sausage gravy. I did that last year and it was a big hit.

We need pics this time. Sounds like lots of fun and something different.

My wife and I will be on vacation again (third year in a row) and will eat at a restaurant that we love. The restaurant offers many different dishes other than the traditional turkey dinner.

However, when I get home I will do what I do every year - go to the grocery store and buy a turkey that has been marked down. I will buy a large one (usually over 20 lbs) and smoke it. That way I have all the "leftovers" for a while and I get to make some really great broth with the carcass.

Going to a multi-family Thanksgiving and someone else is doing the turkey. I'm bringing brisket. No brisket leftovers last year...
