Thermometer question

I'm planning my first butt this weekend and only have one probe thermometer. I usually place this through the top vent on my rib cooks to measure lid temp.

I was thinking of using the therm from the Weber gasser through the top vent and putting the probe in the butt. Do you think this will work?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom, I am in the same situation so i use the probe in the vent through most of the cook. Then as you get closer to being done, remove it and clean it and then stick it in the Butt so you can monitor the meat. The WSM temp should still stay about the same so no need to monitor anymore.

If you have a Menards close to you, they have a long temp probe(about $5.00) for turkey fryers that works good.
You can put it in the top vent and it is long enough to reach the meat on the top rack with out lifting the lid.
That is what I have been doing.
Bryan suggested a NU-701 so I am going to WI to get one of those the 18th.
Otherwise one will do like Kevin said.

Enjoy that Pork!
