Thermometer for Jumbo Joe

I just picked up a Jumbo Joe the other day and really want to add a thermometer to it. Any suggestions from others on which one to go with. Not afraid to spend more money on a quality one over cheaper one. Thanks

I use the iGrill or Maverick by slipping the wires under the lid. Tel Tru and Ashcroft have really good NSF certified thermometers or you could go stock Weber but it's not as accurate if you want a permanent install. (Teltru.com) (ashcroft.com)(Ereplacementparts.com)

If you want something stock looking, you could order a performer thermometer from ereplacementparts and install it in your lid like I did in our go anywhere:

It's easy to put on of these on your lid. Start with a small drill bit and work up to one that just fits. I put one on an older OTS about a month ago. From amazon.

Thanks Dwain. I am looking for a permanent solution in the lid. Will look at the Tel-Tru.

Michael, I looked at that Weber thermometer but thought I read on here somewhere that they were not very accurate. Any thoughts on your experience? Obviously that is a cheaper alternative.

Also any thoughts on the placement. Should I place it in the top of the dome or more on the side to get more accurate temps closer to the grate?

Cool Michael. Found one for $6.50 on ebay with free shipping. Just ordered it. If it doesn't work then I'm not out alot and can start over.

Being the owner of the new Jumbo Joe my thoughts are that the low profile of the lid and the lid dome-to-grate distance is so short that there won't be enough room for significant temperature distance. I believe it's only 5 inches.

Besides, it looks MUCH better in the dome offset proportionally to the vent.

Yeah W, I agree. I got to thinking about the lower profile of the dome a little after I asked that question. Will most likely mount it opposite the vent like you said.

Take a look at the River Country LLC thermometers I have three of them and they are excellent and very accurate, they also can be calibrated by you via a screw in the back if for some reason the get out of adjustment. There less than $15 shipped for the two inch one. You can find them on eBay or maybe Amazon through this site.
Down side is they need a ½ hole

Thanks to everyone for this post. I will be adding a thermometer to my Jumbo Joe. I hadn't even thought of the vent screw hole.
