The new sink

OK the new large single bowl kit sink is installed, new faucet. Bought this one from Costco https://www.costco.com/KRAUS-Topmou...ial-Pull-Down-Faucet--*P.product.2994747.html
It's really nice. However the guy who installed it (good guy) just a little cleaning mistake I can clear up. he used silicone to bed it. Instructions showed that as preferred method rather than plumber's putty. He also used it instead of putty for sealing the drain bowl. Again no issues (I've done the same). But he got some smeared on the shiny SS surfaces. Did his best at the time to clean it up but used some mineral spirits to do so. They made it turn into a kind of a "film" over the surface so it looks like it's smeared. Wondering a good way to cut through that and get it off. Maybe denatured alcohol? Lacquer thinner? IDK. Ideas? Last thing I want to do is damage the sink.

If it's the 100% silicone that smells like vinegar, there is nothing that will dissolve it. Let it dry and you should be able to remove it with a plastic mesh scrubby or some other non-abrasive. It shouldn't be too hard to get rid of, because, like you say, it's such a thin film.

After the silicone film has dried I would just try using a microfiber towel to scrub it off. I would also be leery of damaging the finish by using anything to harsh.
I didn't think denatured alcohol would be too bad on it. Since it's primarily "ethanol" (everclear). I guess I could give it a try on a more "hidden" area of it. I wasn't too worried about it hurting the finish since mineral spirits didn't cause any issue. So, I'm sort of in a mind where I thought the alcohol would not be bad

Yep it was the clear low odor type silicone but still a teeny bit of vinegar smell but nothing like what silicone used to smell like.

In increasing order of strength of solvency, it's water-->alcohol-->lacquer thinner-->acetone. Kerosene is in there somewhere ;)

I've never used that stuff so I don't know how it works, but I have never had any luck with cleaning up RTV or silicone. I just let it dry and scrape/peel it off. Again, I wouldn't expect too much trouble getting rid of the film...it might even come off with friction from your fingers.

If it was small area, I'd agree. But it's all over the sink. When he was cleaning it prior to curing with mineral spirits I think he ended up spreading it more than cleaning it. Thing is with spirits it's kinda hard to see that because it's basically really pure kerosene. So it leaves the surface shiny until it evaporated and hard to see the film. I just looked at a YouTube vid. Guy used Goo Gone and blue Scotch Brite pads. Which don't scratch like greens do. I have Goo Gone so I may give that a whirl when the sink is totally dry.

I like that sink, the price is great but what I like most is the drainage. The sink I have now and the sink in my previous house, didn't have the best drainage, and it was annoying. I don't have anything to offer in getting it cleaned up other than maybe inviting Josh over for dinner and tell him to dress casual and bring the Rain-X :)

A side benefit I just noticed yes it does drain really nicely. But the dishwasher is MUCH quieter. Because on the old sink with the dual drains the gurgling when the pump would kick in was so loud it could wake the dead. Now it's very quiet. Barely hear it so it does the Bosch proud.
Hell, even my wife likes the sink even though she fought me tooth and nail for years against this type always "I need dual sinks" I finally put my foot down and now she likes it. Go figure :D

They make a Goo gone caulk remover but if your Wife has nail polish remover that's basically Acetone.
Yea and use the blue scrubby but keep it wet with a spray bottle with alcohol.
If you ever want to keep silicone from making a mess, lay down a nice bead then spritz it with glass cleaner like Windex.
Smooth it with your finger. The wet surface keeps the silicone from spreading and making a mess.
