The Fire Dial Thread

Cause I thought it would be good to have all the info on one place.

I just got a fire dial. Do I just sit it on the water pan supports? I thought I read somewhere to sit it in top of the charcoal ring.

The pan supports is what I’ve heard but, I do not have any direct knowledge in this matter.

Am I correct that the temp in the WSM will be relatively even throughout? As opposed to a 30* or so difference in the top shelf?

But, what if you are completely lazy, like me? I figure one of you kind, merciful folks will do the legwork for me!

Funny, when I searched for fire dial on the site, I only got threads for the vortex, with mentions of the fire dial. And I couldn’t find the info I needed.

Firedial replaces the water pan. Fit into the water pan bracket.

Mine works great. Highly recommended.

Doesn't the Firedial create a different taste profile, more of a grease/fog smoke which is obviously the result of drippings hitting hot coals.

In my experience, yes.

Not notice able difference to me.

Most of the grease hits the disk and stays there. Like with with any diffuser plate you’d use.

How clean do you try to get it after a smoke?

Scrape with a spatula or putty knife. Takes like one minute. Like you’d do with a flavorizer bar.

Don’t think it needs to be any cleaner than that.
