Im curious if any one has tried this. i bought a 6lb ham loaf and cut it like a criss cross pattern and slathered it with mustard and whatever rub i had around. then i pressed some brown sugar on the three sides and put this in a pan with beer in it and smoked for like 3 hours..now this isnt the ham loaf thats frozen in cardboard and raw, its ready to eat kinda like spam but without that yucky jelly on it..it is made by hormel and i bought it at save-a-lot. omg this was an awsome smoke.. i used apple and hickory wood. after it was smoked i let it cool like 5 minutes then i sliced for sandwiches and grilled them using the wsm with the grate right on the charcoal ring..omg was this some good q.. this is my first post here as i am new to this board but not new to the q !! any one else ever try this ??

try cutting the criss cross on one side of the loaf and almost all the way through. I saw a photo of this once, but can't recall where. It suck in my mind because after smoking, it ends up looking like a bloomin' onion, and people can grab a stalk of ham and dip it in mustard. It looked cool. If you like the ham loaf, then I'd suggest giving this a try and reporting back.

welcome to the board

Hi Dean - Sounds good but I have a limited imagination and am having a hard time putting that all together in my mind. Next time post some pics if you can. It really sounds like a must try. Thanks, Bob
