Tempature control 18 vs 22

I have a Brinkman that is in parts, use it to hold my firestarters on the grate. It has the charcoal pan so will keep that. Saw one on CL and made an offer but didn't get it, should have paid the $120, it was a 2007 model.
But I am sure another will come up.

I have decided on the 18.5. Now I just have to save up for it. My wife's 60th birthday is the 15th and I have already found out that she DOESN'T want a WSM :wsm:

Personally I cannot understand that. She wants two rocking chairs from Cracker Barrel (same price as the WSM 18). But maybe what goes around... My 60th is the 23rd of July and I think it only fair that we spend the same amount of money on each other.

Too bad you didn't realize you wanted an 18.5 when Home Depot was clearing them out for $50...I wonder if anyone near you has any "extras" lying around.

That is the story of my life

I have never seen one at Home Depot, Lowes, or Bass Pro, also until about a month ago I didn't even know these bad boys even existed. How long ago was the clearance?

The older models have a different water pan and door latch. (still not as good as the Brinkman) They do not have a thermometer which you could easily install yourself anyway. I never had any problems with the door latch on mine but others had it come open. That issue is easily rectified by calibrating the latch handle.

I have both a 18 1/2" and 22 1/2" WSM and I use them both. Temperature control is easy on both, and neither has a problem going low.
I use an 18 1/2" charcoal ring in my 22 1/2" WSM. For low temp and short cooks, it does cut down on fuel usage.
Get the 22 1/2" model, you will be happy. :)

Got it mainly because the 18 was out everywhere I checked and the local Ace had a 22 on display, I got 10% off as a floor sample.

I am happy I got it but it is killing me to see it sitting there with the cover on and not allowed to use it till Fathers Day!
