Temp question

I have a Summit 6 burner that I rehabbed, my first rehab thanks to all of you guys for the insight. My question is how hot should it get? I preheat it for about 10-15min, its NG, and it tops out at 550 degrees. 1. is this normal? and 2. is there something I need to check? I realize that it doesn't need to get much hotter then that but I just wanted to know what was up. Thanks

I would think one of those big six burners would get a little hotter than that, but not sure. Is the temp still rising at 10-15 minutes. That isn't really all that much time for the grill to get to max temp.

I would think a Summit would hit 600 or more. First, is thermometer accurate? You might want to get an oven or other internal thermometer and see what it registers at the grates.

It's about right on the money for it. 6 burners doesn't make it any hotter than say a 3 burner Genesis. Keep in mind too the lid is taller and the thermometer is further away from the heat source so it may not register quite as hot. Bottom line. Does it cook well?

Nah, the cook has nothing to do with it. There are other influences. Ambient temp, wind speed/direction and so on. The lid thermo is not always a good indicator of how a grill will cook
