Talk about bum luck

So, I bought myself (from Market Place) yesterday a brand spanking new Ryobi 40V EZ Clean cordless pressure washer. Now, I am in the Bosch and DeWalt environment but since it came with a battery and a charger and I snagged it for $95 in a brand new sealed box, I figured "WTH".
So today, I give it whirl and stick the battery on the charger. Brand new out of the box no good :poop: :poop: :poop: :poop: :mad::mad::mad: I guess there is a good reason I've steered clear of Ryobi tools. Hopefully tomorrow I can give them a call and see what they can do for me. But they're likely to want a proof of purchase.
Well the guy I bought it from had gotten it as a gift and never opened it because like myself he's in the DeWalt environment.
So pi$$ed off! Last time I ever stray from DeWalt or Bosch that is FO SHO!!!!!
I guess there is a good reason their tools are so cheap

I have a lot of Ryobi tools and batteries, never had a problem. On the other hand, if I bought a different brand and did have a problem I wouldn't automatically label it junk. Ryobi will still probably replace the battery, you will probably just need to provide them with the serial number off of the battery case. As long as the guy you bought it from didn't have it sitting in his garage for several years first it should still be under warranty.

Except I don't have a receipt for it. Usually these darn companies won't do anything without a receipt rather than doing "right" by the person stuck with an issue. I do intend to call them tomorrow.

I intend to call Ryobi today, and will report back. Though it looks like the battery was made toward the end of 21. Even though I opened the box up brand new yesterday.
Bottom line, if they don't cover it, I'll sell this thing on FleaBay and find a DeWalt type "tool only" since I have DeWalt batteries

So I gave Ryobi a call this AM. Was a good news/bad news thing. The battery was technically out of warranty. But, I explained the situation to a VERY helpful woman. She checked to see if she had leeway and she said she did. So, she said in a couple weeks I should see a new battery :D I almost fell over! Pretty darn nice CS on ANY level you take it!

I've got several Ryobi 18 volt tools and they have not skipped a beat. Some go back to the blue color days before the safety slime green. Never had a issue with the tools, but the batteries have been all over the ballpark once they are out of warranty.

Makita is still independently owned. I've been brand loyal with Makita since the late 80's. Their current battery and tool lineup is excellent. We're now 100% electric (line trimmer, leaf blower and all hand power tools) and the Makita platform works very well for our needs. I do a few DIY projects a year and some very light automotive work.

Brought my first cordless drill late 80's

Makita reps used to come to the job and hand me loaners to use for a month to put thru the paces.
Favorite circular saw is a Makita 7 1/4" corded. I could cut a hip roof in 1 hour.
Makita or Milwaukee..

Bought my first one in late 80s as well. A Porter Cable drill. IIRC 7.2 V NiCad battery. The drill itself is still fine but the battery pack is toast. Was a great tool.

All batteries fail at some point, which is why I went with Ridgid and their lifetime warranty that includes batteries in 2013. I've replaced one battery about a year ago, and now I have another one that needs replacement. The replacement batteries are warrantied for life, too.
