Just happened to log onto FleaBay. First thing in my feed? A Baratza Encore AP COMPLETE with the portafilter setup and all for only $150+shipping!! These things are Commercial Rated and $900 new! I'm sure hoping it's as good as a deal it looks like! Because I didn't waste time "watching" it I snagged that down immediately.

So, holy cow the score went totally next level! The grinder arrived today. Not really well packaged and the fact it got here safely after being handled by USPS is amazing. Anyway from a physical standpoint it arrived looking good (albeit filthy) but physically good. Gave it a thorough cleaning, plugged it in control panel lit right up so thought I was good. But, it keeps defaulting to "M" or "Manual" and while it will start up you cannot stop it unless you disconnect the cord. (not good). It does work by weight though. So, having not been disclosed as a "parts or repair" machine (which it is), I wrote a note to the seller. (a friendly but firm note) and within 20 minutes I get an email from PayPal she'd refunded the entire amount! WAY WAY above and beyond what I expected. It needs a $75 part (touch screen) and it will work fine again. So in essence I have an $850 grinder for $75! Talk about falling in :poop: and coming up smelling like a 🌹

That's fabulous. Sometimes you just get lucky, but fair play to the seller.

I wrote her back and said I felt terrible and really did not feel right accepting that. And she responded they were moving, it was unused and basically useless to them. And that she felt badly the unit was not fully operational and to simply accept her "gift" as appreciation for being a good EBay buyer. I would have been happy if she just gave me $60 off to cover the new control panel. And offered to pay the difference and she would not hear of it. Go figure. And also I did not write up a public complaint or poor feedback simply asked if we could work something out? Boom, full refund. Of course she got a glowing feedback

This is how things should always be worked out. One time I went to collect a brand new butchers block trolley for free from a couple. It was high quality solid beech legs and a beech endgrain thick butchers block on top, with stainless steel bottom tray. When I arrived at a nice big house, I asked why they were getting rid of a brand new item that was beautiful. The lady of the house said that when she ordered it, she thought the bottom tray was stainless steel and when they got it, the bottom tray was blue plastic! So in front of them I said have a look at this and peeled off the blue plastic film that was protecting the stainless steel!!! She couldn't believe it but said I'd come all that way and she wouldn't go.back on her word or take money for it. So I went out and bought a very nice bottle of Chateuneuf-du-pap and gave it to them. We ended up all happy. I still have that trolley and love it. I love it when decent people get together to do a deal.
