tabs on dampers

Anyone ever break off the little stop tabs on dampers? Those tabs are keeping me from completely closing off intakes. With tabs there is still air gap.

think one of mine broke off a while ago. does not affect it at all other then you can shut it more as you stated

Yes I broke them off or re angled them or..took a small round file to the area of the hole and gave it a touch up for the damper to close. If you are leaking a lot of air check the diameter of your grill, or WSM for out of round.

Ive had mine sine 08, a little build up of gunk and grease is all that you need IMO.

it is certainly not round. when I cleaned it up today I can look between the cook chamber and the bottom portion and see the charcoal grate.
